It's his alphabet: The girls, children and dolls by Trevor Brown are no longer cute. They were flayed, beaten and raped! Trevor Brown’s images shock and outrage through their obtrusive hyper-realism.

Violence, war, obscenity and fascism are his themes. But to therefore consider Brown a polemic provocateur would be too simple. He mercilessly confronts us with our image in the mirror, plays with our emotions, our deepest fears and our vulnerability. But isn’t it often our own fascination with the terrible which he triggers with his images and which scares us even more? Decide for yourself!

Trevor Brown was born in England and now lives and works in Japan. Formally and by content his works are reminiscent of the works of surrealist Hans Bellmer or neoromanticist Gottfried Helnwein. His affinity with Young Brit Art by artists like Damien Hirst or the brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman is highly visible too. There are also influences from kitsch-art from Jeff Koons, pop art and Japanese Manga comics à la Junko Mizuno to detect.
