Spike Jonze - The Work of Director 1 (Pic 1)
The first edition of this series is devoted to the American Spike Jonze ("Being John Malkovich"), who has already been nominated for an "Oscar" several times. This DVD contains some of his best known works such as the video for "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys, "Da Funk" by Daft Punk or "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim (with the weightless dance of Christopher Walken). A series of music-clips you simply have to have seen!
Chris Cunningham - The Work of Director 2 (Pic 2)
The second episode in this DVD-series is devoted to the well-known English video-clip director Chris Cunningham. On it are some of his best known works, such as the controversial video for "Frozen" by Madonna for instance, or the sensational Björk-clip "All is full for Love". Some of the best videos of all time!
Michel Gondry - The Work of Director 3 (Pic 3)
The third edition of the series "The Work of Director“ is about the maybe most refined music-video director of them all: Frenchman Michel Gondry. This two-sided DVD offers about 4 hours of material (among it the documentary "I’ve been 12 forever" and of course many of his highlights such as the video "Fell in Love with a Girl" for The White Stripes). If your interest lies with music-videos, this DVD is a must have!
Mark Romanek - The Work of Director 4 (No Pic)
Mark Romanek used to work as an assistant to Brian DePalma and is now amongst the most sought after advertising and music video directors in America. We all remember his scandalous video for "Criminal" by Fiona Apple (who shows a hot strip-tease there). This DVD not least delights through its almost excessive number of videos of the highest quality!
Jonathan Glazer - The Work of Director 5 (No Pic)
The Brit Jonathan Glazer is a highly talented director of advertisement and music-clips. Among his clients is, among many others, the clothes-label "Levi’s“, but his biggest success so far has been his video for "Virtual Insanity“ by Jamiroquai which won several MTV-Awards. The works of Jonathan Glazer intrigue by their romantic, sometimes downright gloomy image-composition. Might that be the reason why his works are often shown rather late on the music-stations?
Anton Corbijn - The Work of Director 6 (Pic 4)
The Dutch photographer and video-clip director Anton Corbijn is without doubt one of the best known and most visible artists of his trade. His name is tightly linked with the success of Depeche Mode whose visuals bear his mark more clearly than anyone else’s. It was high time that the series "The Work of Director“ honoured him with a retrospective! On the disc can be found, among others, works for Nirvana, U2, his neighbour Herbert Grönemeyer and of course several videos he made for Depeche Mode. Further playing tips are: "Liar“ for Henry Rollins and "Front by Front“ for Front 242. Then again, every single work by Anton Corbijn really is a true feast for the eyes!
Stéphane Sednaoui - The Work of Director 7 (Pic 5)
Before Frenchman Stéphane Sednaoui joined the guild of music-video producers in the early 90’s he worked as a fashion photographer. Among his specialities were so-called illumination effects (a special lighting technique in photography). His breakthrough as a director of music videos came with his excellent clip for "Give it away" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. A very nice collection of his works!
